Administration officials, who disclosed the impending move, stressed that it is intended as part of Carter's effort to deter any Soviet designs on control of the oil producing region. They said it is not related in any way to the continued imprisonment of 50 American hostages at the US Embassy in Tehran.

Iran seeks to revive arms deal with UK

An Iranian military team has recently completed talks in Britain on the possible resumption of British arms sales to Iran.

The sources said the visit "during the past few weeks" was at the initiative of the Iranians. They are seeking spare parts and ammunition for existing equipment, particularly the 900 Chieftain tanks purchased by Iran before the Shah was deposed last February, the informants said.

Sadat calls for setting up of an Arab city in Jerusalem

Egyptian President Anwar Sadat told an Israeli Mapam opposition party group that he wants an Arab city council to be established in east Jerusalem and called for an "immediate mutual" recognition between Israel and the Palestinians.

Jerusalem should not be divided any more by barbed wire. Israel should accept the establishment of an Arab city council, raising an Arab flag, along with a joint city council based on equity between the Arab and the Israeli side, to administer all municipal affairs in united Jerusalem, Sadat said.

Taiwan say U.S. motives political

Taiwanese athletes fought and lost a battle in US courts against the flag ban, imposed by the Olympic Movement last year when it admitted communist China. The US Government supported the international Olympics Committee (IOC) on the issue.
