Another Iranian air force chief resigns

The fourth head of Iran's troubled air force since the February revolution has resigned and the deputy army chief has been replaced, Defence Minister Taqi Riahi. Riahi said they were not linked with disagreements over plans to sell Iran's most advanced warplanes back to the United States. General Asghar Imanian had stepped down as Air Force Chief because of fatigue.

The grand investment

The UAE's budget for 1979 has given a prime place to the development of the nation's youth potential. The Presidential decree issued endorsing the budget voted Dh299 million for the Emirates University, Dh 229 million more than the initial grant it received two years ago.

India's giant rocket aborts

India's space programme suffered a setback when the launching of its first giant space rocket failed and the fourth stage plunged into the Bay of Bengal instead of going into orbit. The 17-tonne SLV-3 rocket, which could give India intermediate Range Ballistic missile (iRBM) capability, aborted due to failure of its second stage.

Eritrea charges UN with 100,000 killings

Eritrean political leader blamed the United Nations for plunging his country into an 18-year independence struggle which has killed 100,000 people.  He said the Eritrean Liberation Front People's Liberation Forces (ELF-PLF) was campaigning for the world body to malce amends by recognising the Eritrean peopie's struggle as an official liberation movement Taha Nur.
