Egypt expelled from OAPEC

The Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC) has expelled Egypt from membership and also announced a total embargo on oil shipments to Egypt. The expulsion was announced by the current OAPEC chairman, Libyan heavy industries Minister Omar Al Montasser, at the end of a two day OAPEC meeting, attended by all the remaining nine members of the organization.

Tourists flee quake hit Montenegro

Rains and more earth shocks have added to the misery of an estimated 80,000 Yugoslavs who spent their second night in the open on south Jugoslavia's Montenegro Coast devastated by earthquakes. Foreign tourists fled from the area as the government reported a total of 101 bodies had been recovered since the quake on Easter Sunday.

A rash of tetanus deaths

A rash of tetanus deaths is causing serious concern to the Health authorities. Already three-new-born babies have died. A fourth baby was also on the critical list with a history of tetanus but survived due to the timely medical treatment given at the Kuwait Hospital. They were all babies born in homes in Fujairah who developed tetanus due to 'their umbilical cords being severed with unsterilised instruments.

8 dead in British Rail collision

As rescuers searched the tangled wreckage of two passenger trains that collided head-on in a suburban Glasgow railway station, the death toll rose to eight. Police said the dead included the two engineers. Only three bodies had been recovered from the wreckage by late morning, but others could be seen.

Miracle Martin

A wombless British woman has given birth to a healthy baby after a full-term pregnancy in what doctors describe as a "miracle." Alison Trott, 23, had her womb removed in an operation amounting to sterilisation last year after the birth of her second child. When she started putting on weight a few months later, she went on a diet. Only two weeks before the birth did she and doctors realise she was pregnant. Martin 2.87kg was born by caesarean section on March 31 in Taunton, southwest England.
