Oil production to be controlled
Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Dr Mana Said Al Otaiba confirmed, UAE will abide by the resolution calling for no increase in its oil production due to the circumstances of "supply and demand" in world oil markets.
Dr Otaiba said, UAE has already decided to produce fixed and limited amounts of its oil and is not going to change this decision at present. "This is in conformity with the aspirations of the UAE people because this wealth is also the right of coming generations which cannot be denied to them by anybody"
Municipality drive on abandoned cars
Dubai Municipality will drag away the abandoned motor vehicles to a common graveyard. Dubai Municipality Health Department has drawn up a one-week programme under which a concentrated drive to keep the city tidy has been launched. The spokesman said that abandoned vehicles lying around were ugly blots in the city.
Hoveyda executed
Amir Abbas Hoveyda, the Shah's Premier for 13 years, was executed. Islamic court in Teheran found the 57-year-old Hoveyda guilty of all charges of being "a corrupt element on earth, responsible for spreading corruption and treason to Iran."
Mulder expelled
Connie Mulder, once front-runner for the premiership of South Africa, was expelled from the ruling Nation Party over his role in the "slush funds" scandal now rocking the government. He had already resigned from the Cabinet, from his Parliamentary seat and from his party leadership in Transvaal Province.
