Muscat: One candidate died on Friday, leaving 631 candidates for the sixth term elections for Oman's 84-seat Majlis Al Shura (Advisory Council).

"Abdullah Bin Saeed Al Maamari died but elections will go ahead as usual," Saeed Khalid Bin Hilal Al Busaidi, head of Election Preparatory Committee, told Gulf News.

After withdrawal of two candidates, nine were left in the constituency but with Al Maamari's death only eight will contest for this particular seat in the Council.

"We will scratch out his name from the ballot paper and go ahead with the election in that constituency," he added.
