Dubai: From this week onwards, scratch Wednesday off and write in Thursday on the wedding invitation of Filipino couples.
As the UAE has made its weekend transition from Thursday and Friday to Friday and Saturday, Filipinos who plan to get married have had to reschedule the happiest day of their lives.
Filipino couples will now get married on Thursday instead of Wednesday as the consulate follows the new weekend directive. However, Philippine Consulate General officials told Gulf News that they did not expect the new day to disrupt prospective brides and grooms.
"It's only the day, which is not a significant change. Before couples applied, they already know that the wedding might be on Thursday," said Henry Jiminez, the official in charge of weddings.
"The biggest change is the consulate's move to a new building," he added. The consulate moved to its new premises in Al Ghusais last week.
Jiminez said the consulate always called couples two weeks before to ensure they were free to get married on their assigned date. He estimated about 30 couples have scheduled their wedding in September. The consulate marries an average of ten couples every week since it opened its doors in January last year.
