Nairobi: Kenyan legislators have called on the international criminal court to bring genocide charges against opposition leaders, as the war of words over post election violence continued.
A statement signed by 104 MPs who back the president Mwai Kibaki said: “"We are calling for ... the indicting of Orange Democratic Movement leaders by the International Criminal Court on charges of ethnic cleansing and genocide.”
More than 300 people have been killed in violence since the election result was announced on Sunday, with Kibaki claiming a narrow victory in a disputed poll.
The worst incident has seen the burning to death of 30 members of Kibaki's Kikuyu tribe in a church near the Rift Valley city of Eldoret.
Opposition leader Raila Odinga said he was ‘robbed’ in the election, while EU observers have said the poll did not meet international standards.
