Karachi: Faisal Iqbal cracked an unbeaten century to place Pakistan on top gear.
He had bulldozed into the Pakistan team through a string of huge scores in domestic cricket and fully utilised the opportunity he got to play.
Had Inzamam Ul Haq been fit, he may not have been in the playing eleven.
Iqbal helped Pakistan wipe off the absence of their skipper through an elegant fighting knock.
GULF NEWS: How does it feel to get your first Test century?
Iqbal: It is special because it is my comeback knock. I am very happy at having guided Pakistan to such a position.
What went through your mind when you went out to bat?
I did not bat well in the first innings. So I was keen to apply myself to the situation. I am happy at what I have achieved today.
So what are your plans for tomorrow?
In cricket, it is difficult to predict anything. So I will continue to apply myself to the situation like I did today.
What do you think should be the target?
That is for my captain to decide. My job is to continue batting as long as I do.
How much has Javed Miandad helped you in your career?
Miandad is my uncle and I've learned a lot from him. He has polished my skills too. But I do not want to be known as Miandad's nephew, only as Faisal Iqbal.
Did you speak to Miandad before this Test?
Of course I did. Since he is my uncle, I keep speaking to him whenever possible.
Were you under pressure at any time during this innings?
I have played this innings under pressure after a poor first innings. So I was determined and concentrated on every ball.
How was the Indian bowling?
All their bowlers bowled very well. But I was very well focused on my game and innings.
How special is this century?
It is a great feeling to score my first Test century and that too against India.
Whom do you plan to dedicate this century?
To my team and to my family.
