Faisalabad: Is Sourav Ganguly being dropped for the one-dayers too? According to information from the Indian camp, Ganguly may not play in the third Test too. With Mahendra Dhoni and Irfan Pathan having batted so well, the Indian team management has decided that there is no need for an extra batsman. The wicket in Karachi is also likely to assist bowlers and hence India will continue to field five bowlers for that match too. According to a source, if Ganguly is not being selected for the final Test, he may be given the option of returning to India and playing in the Ranji Trophy final for Bengal against Uttar Pradesh. The Ranji trophy final is scheduled to commence on January 30. No chance
The source also revealed that the Indian team for the one-dayers against Pakistan would be announced on January 29, and Mohammad Kaif might replace Ganguly. Ganguly was dropped for the second Test despite not getting a chance to bat in the first Test at Lahore. It was indeed moving to see Ganguly jog along with the reserves after the match every day. As per the Indian team coach's diktat, players not in the playing XI must jog after the match to overcome the stiffness of having sat in the dressing room the whole day. He also comes out with a bat during tea and lunch to tap at the nets along with Wasim Jaffer and Gautam Gambhir. It should be noted that Ganguly has not got a chance to bat in a single match ever since he arrived in Pakistan on January 7. Since he was playing in the Ranji Trophy match in India, Ganguly did not even get to bat in the practice match against the Pakistan A team.
