Thiruvananthapuram: Congress leader A.K. Antony said yesterday the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPM) should make it clear whether their threat to withdraw support to the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) at the Centre would be carried out.

Speaking to newsmen in Kozhikode yesterday, Antony said: "The CPM owes it to the people to clarify their stand on this matter. If they keep saying that they will withdraw support to the UPA government, they must make it clear before the completion of the campaign for the second phase of elections in Kerala.

"When the CPM says it will withdraw support to the Congress-led government at the centre, it will only pave the way for the communal agenda of the Bharatiya Janata Party to be implemented."

The former chief minister also defended his action during the Marad incidents, saying it was his government's decisive actions that prevented a massive bloodbath after communal violence in Marad.
