Firstly, I would like to congratulate you on your pleasantly surprising performance in the recent Chup Chup Ke. What are your feelings about the role and why did you agree take it up?

Yes, it was exciting. The role came at an important juncture in my career. I was looking to do something different and Priyadarshan gave me the opportunity. And am I glad I accepted the role, considering all the positive feedback I am receiving.

Was it a conscious attempt to move away from your sexy image and do the role of a traditional Indian girl?

Yes, it was a conscious effort. But it does not mean I wish to be typecast as a traditional girl. I would like to strike a balance between modern and traditional characters because I want to be known as an actress rather than a star.

So, do we now see Neha in more performance-oriented roles?

I am looking forward to such roles where I get a chance to do something worthwhile on the screen. I am excited about Mithiya, a film directed by Rajat Kapoor, where I am paired opposite Naseeruddin Shah.

I am doing a movie on the local trains of Mumbai with Abhay Deol titled 1:40 Ki Last Local Train. There's Sanjay Gupta's Dus Kahaniyaan, where my story is called Highway and my co- star is Jimmy Sheirgill. There is another film with Jimmy - Delhi Heights - being produced by Shivaji productions, producers of Tamil superstar Rajnikant's blockbuster Chandramukhi.

How do you feel being at IIFA Dubai?

It feels great being in Dubai and I definitely intend to do a lot of shopping before I get back.
