In the 1980s, actor-producer-director Feroz Khan created mass hysteria across the world with Qurbani (sacrifice). Twenty-six years later, he has decided to recreate and repeat the magic of his mega-blockbuster.

This time, however, there are a few changes. To begin with, this film starts with a K because "it will be easier for people to refer to it".

Son Fardeen steps into daddy's shoes and will play the role of Rajesh. Jackie Shroff will play the role of Rakha (played by the late actor Amrish Puri).

Most importantly, Khan senior will play the role of Inspector Khan (originally played by the late Amjad Khan).

Tough decision

Khan senior says it took him six months to decide on it. "These days everybody is into remakes of blockbusters and so I thought, before anyone else attempts my film, let me do it as well."

In the original flick, Feroz had re-invented Zeenat Aman's looks and is known to be largely responsible for her sexy image.

"I would rather say that I re-launched her career because Raj (Kapoor) had already cast her as the half-ugly, half-pretty lady in Satyam Shivam Sundaram," he says. "But yes, with this film, Zeenat did get an entirely new look."

So is he looking for another beauty queen to play the role of Sheila?

"Yes, of course," he says. "I cannot settle for anything less than the best."

While Saif Ali Khan has opted out of the film owing to date problems, there is still no news of who will play the role of Amar.

Getting musical

Qurbani was also a landmark film for music director Biddu, though the most popular songs (Laila O Laila, Allah Ko Pyari hai Qurbani and Hum Tumhe Chahtey Hain Aise) were composed by Kalyanji Anandji. This tme around, Khan has shown faith in Anand Raj Anand.

"When I was composing the music of Janasheen, Ferozji had asked me to set aside a few tunes to be used at a later stage," says Anand.

"His films have some of the best music and since he has a ear for good music, in Kurbani, you are going to hear some of the greatest music ever created in Bollywood."
