Beirut: United Nations investigators probing the murder of former Lebanese premier Rafik Hariri will question four Syrians in Vienna next week, sources familiar with the inquiry said. They said the four include the former chief of Syria's intelligence in Lebanon, Lieutenant general Rustom Gazali, and will be questioned on Monday. The UN inquiry had already questioned Gazali and identified him as a suspect. The four also include Hosam Hosam, a witness who had implicated Syrian officials in the February 14 assassination. Syria rejected any questioning of President Bashar Al Assad on Thursday but indicated that Foreign Minister Farouq Al Shar'a will be allowed to meet the investigators.
The new chief of the UN inquiry, Belgian prosecutor Serge Brammertz, will take up his post in Beirut next week, his team said. "We are expecting Mr Brammertz next week in Beirut," spokeswoman Nasrat Hassan said.
