September 1996: gulfnews.com launched just five years after the internet was officially invented. Just one picture was used, along with a handful of stories from each section.
September 1997: A newer version of the site is launched with more pictures and an expanded navigation menu allowing promotion of stories from different sections.
May 1999: The third incarnation of gulfnews.com is launched. It is the first time that the phrase Gulf News online is used. Up to that point the site had been referred to as the Gulf News web edition.
July 1999: The new site proved unpopular with the public, and after listening to its readers, gulfnews.com removed the new menus and went back to basics.
October 2000: A completely redesigned site which features a search facility, gving online readers a chance to look for previous stories.
March 2004: The latest version of the site begins to resemble the current version with the colour scheme and look closely mirroring the print edition. Picture galleries are also available.
May 2006: Have Your Say section launched on the site to help deal with increasing levels of reader feedback.
July 2006: Latest version of gulfnews.com launched - new features include an easier to use comments section and the ability to view multiple pictures in a single story.
