Sharjah: A prominent media figure, who has registered as a candidate for the Federal National Council (FNC) elections, has vowed to tackle various problems. Omran Mattar Taryam, Managing Editor of Arabic daily Al Khaleej, says he will take up issues such as the demographic structure, emiratisation and rising prices.
He wants to search for new means to increase the UAE population and raise the children allowance for UAE nationals. Regarding the demographic structure, Taryam said although the government has been addressing the issue for some time, yet it needs a fresh approach.
While the UAE population is small, the number of expatriate workers employed for the ongoing development process is very high. Hence, a proper decision taking into consideration the stability and security of the country must be taken.
Taryam said he will also address the issue of emiratisation in semi-government and private companies. He said if the emiratisation process goes properly it will decrease the dependence on expatriates. He urged the government to take necessary measures to increase the UAE population. One step would be to increase children allowance, which has remained at Dh300 for each child per month.
Besides, he said steps must be taken to curb inflation. Attention must also be given to improve the health and education sectors. "These sectors are very important, providing vital services to UAE nationals. This motivates them to give their country the best they can," he said. "There is a need to help UAE nationals to increase their income through investments and setting up new businesses."
