Dubai: Racing fans at the Nad Al Sheba are bound to go back a decade when the great Alanudd (Unchained Melody) dominated Purebred Arabian Racing like no other horse before.
The Abu Dhabi-based mare won a total of 37 races and just lost once in her illustrious career before retiring to foal champions. Winner of the His Highness The President's Cup five times and the National Day Cup four times, Alanudd also lit up the Dubai World Cup day with her characteristic start-to-finish wins in 1997, 98 and 99 to complete a hat-trick of the Kahayla Classic.
On Saturday, Alanudd's daughter Mizzna makes her second visit to the starter's gates and will be looking to stop the mighty Madjani from breaking her mother's record.
When asked to compare the two, Madjani's trainer Gillian Duffield said: "They were both great champions, but yet different in many ways.
"One a champion mare that won her races in one of the most dominating fashions. Madjani is a horse of a different era.
"He is also a champion and has his own style," commented the British trainer of Purebred Arabian horses.
