Dubai: While the Dubai World Cup horseracing will grab all the attention over the weekend, around 1,200 staff and executives of different companies will vie for top honours in the 2008 Dubai Corporate Games over the next two days at the American University.
There will be as many as six events in the third edition of the multi-discipline event which has grown every year. "The participation has grown three-fold from 400 in the first year. What they possibly lack in terms of skill is more than made up by their enthusiasm," said one of organisers. Competition would take place in the following events: football (men; seven-a-side); Basketball (men & women); Volleyball (men & mixed events - 4 a-side); Tennis (men & women's team events); athletics (100 metres , 800 m; 1,500m for men & women); swimming (50 metres, 100 metres freestyle for men & women).
There will also be a Mixed Dragon Boat Racing on the lake at the Internet City. Advertising heavyweights Leo Burnett has won the award the last two years, but can expect stiff competition this time.
Pierre Choueiri, Managing Director of Choueiri Group, title-sponsors of the event, justified their interest in the event: "The Dubai Corporate Games uniquely promotes a healthy lifestyle amongst the corporate community. More importantly, they have come to signify the spirit of sportsmanship, teamwork and healthy competition."
