Abu Dhabi: Godolphin jockey Kerrin McEvoy is hoping to carry his Super Thursday form into the Dubai World Cup meeting on March 29.
The Australian, deputy to Godolphin numero uno Frankie Dettori, scored two smart wins at the Super Thursday meeting two weeks ago, aboard horses that have been nominated to Dubai World Cup day.
But McEvoy is still unsure about his book of rides as Godolphin have yet to decide on the pecking order of their team.
McEvoy's Super Thursday wins came courtesy Diabolical in the Group 3 Mahab Al Shimaal and Elusive Warning in the Burj Nahaar, also a Group 3 contest. "I am not yet sure who is riding which horse on March 29," revealed McEvoy. "But, yes, I would love to ride Diabolical. But maybe Frankie [Dettori] will be on him."
However, McEvoy said was likely to partner Elusive Warning in the $1m Godolphin Mile. "I'm looking forward to the race. He is in superb form and I hope to be on him," said McEvoy.
Elusive Warning was an impressive winner of a race that was supposed to be a prep for Dubai World Cup hope Asiatic Boy. But while Asiatic Boy, winner of the UAE Triple Crown last season, ran flat McEvoy's Elusive Warning was doing the best work at the finish as he held on gamely to deny stable companion Blackat Blackitten, ridden by Dettori.
Commenting on his career since he joined Godolphin in 2004, the Australian said: "It has been a great experience riding with Godolphin. I really enjoy the races here in Dubai. Some of the best horses and jockeys ride here and it is highly competitive ."
Unique experience
About the unique experience of riding Purebred Arabians McEvoy commented: "I have ridden Arabian horses before and I do like it. They are different but very competitive."
Asked if he had ever considered settling down in Dubai and investing in property the Australian remarked: "I am very interested in buying property here. I'm yet to make up my mind, but for sure I'm going to pick up some property here very soon."
Born on October 24, 1980, Kerrin McEvoy, whose father Philip was a jockey, hails from the fishing hamlet of Streaky Bay, a six-hour drive west of Adelaide, Australia.
He shot to prominence in 2000, winning the Melbourne Cup aboard Brew, becoming the second youngest jockey to ever win Australia's premier race, and has enjoyed over 500 successes in his home country.
McEvoy has ridden 113 winners, including 51 Group 1 wins during his four-year tenure with Godolphin.
And he is still counting.
