Dubai: Almost half of America's contingent for the Dubai World Cup (Gr 1) programme hit tracks on both coasts for final workouts before they flew out to the UAE yesterday.

The group of six included Grade 2 winner Well Armed, who will contest the $6 million Dubai World Cup, sponsored by Emirates Airline, for trainer Eoin Harty, who previously oversaw Godolphin's American juvenile program.

Continuing on a strong training pattern, the five-year-old Tiznow gelding worked seven furlongs (approximately 1,400 metres) in 1:24.80, handily, over Santa Anita Park's all-weather track. The drill was the fastest of two at the distance.

Well Armed had previously turned in workouts of five furlongs (about 1,000 meters) on March 5 and March 11, going in :59 and 1:00.40, respectively, moves that led Harty to declare he could not be more pleased with the gelding's preparation for the Dubai World Cup.

Also working impressively at Santa Anita on Monday was Barbecue Eddie, a candidate for the $2 million Dubai Golden Shaheen (Gr 1), sponsored by Gulf News. The four-year-old Stormy Atlantic gelding sped through three furlongs (about 600 meters) in :34.60, fastest of 15 at the distance.

Trainer Brian Koriner has described Barbecue Eddie as an excellent work horse and a versatile runner who is poised to win his first stakes event after finishing a strong second to Grade 1 winner In Summation in the Palos Verdes Handicap (Gr 2) at Santa Anita on January 21.

On the East Coast, three runners worked at Palm Meadows Training Center in Florida, with multiple Grade 1 winner Better Talk Now going six furlongs (about 1,200 metres) in 1:13 while breezing on the firm turf course.
