Dubai: Sir Michael Stoute, who won the Dubai World Cup in 1997 with Singspiel, is hoping to win it again this year after giving Maraahel the go ahead for Saturday's Group 1 race.

Last year Maraahel, a five-year-old son of Alzao, who was placed in Group company on his last four starts, finished 8th to Phoenix Reach in the Dubai Sheema Classic over 2,400 metres on turf.

But the trainer has now opted for the big one, a race run on dirt over 2,000 metres.

Richard Hills, who won the World Cup in 1999 with Almutawakel, will take the ride.

Hills told At The Races yesterday: "He has been running in Group Ones for a while now and he is due to win one which is why we have now switched him to the dirt. He's tough but it's very competitive."
