Dubai: Electrocutionist was reported to be in top form to justify being the favourite for Saturday's $6million Dubai World Cup.
A field of 12 runners was declared at yesterday's final entry stage.
The Red Ransom colt delighted trainer Saeed Bin Surour in his final serious workout at Godolphin's private track in Al Quoz yesterday morning, and Surour believes he has his big-race hope on song.
With jockey Frankie Dettori in the saddle, Electrocutionist breezed over five furlongs. "He worked nice, we were happy with what we saw," Surour told Gulf News. "He did nothing wrong. He looks well and hopefully we can keep him ticking until Saturday."
English bookmakers Coral have installed Electrocutionist as the short-priced 11/10 favourite to supply Godolphin a fourth win in the World Cup after Dubai Millennium, Street Cry and Moon Ballad.
However, there was no reaction from Surour, who, instead, said: "There are some very tough horses in the race. It's not going to be easy.
"I have a lot of respect for the Americans and Japanese and wish them luck."
A Group 1 winner on turf in England, Electrocutionist made a smashing dirt debut on March 2 in the Group 2 Maktoum Challenge, which he won by seven lengths.
A Kentucky-bred by Red Ransom, out of an Arazi mare, Electrocutionist was scoring his sixth win in eight career starts.
After the race, Dettori said: "He has won well, travelled well and picked up well. The opposition was not the greatest, but you can only beat what is there on the day and that is a good start to his Godolphin career."
Electrocutionist was making his first start for Godolphin that had purchased him privately over the winter. When previously based in Italy, he won the 2005 Juddmonte International (Group 1 ) at York and Gran Premio di Milano (Group 1) at Milan. He also finished third in the Canadian International (Group 1) on in his final start last year.
