Move over Thelma and Louise - Elise and Allison are here to star in the 2006 remake. As in the famous 1991 road adventure film, the dynamic Dubai duo is frantically preparing to hit the tarmac and take a road trip the girly way.
Allison Amour and Elise Baverel will attempt to drive to Paris from Dubai by car, which they estimate should take them around 12 days, in a bid to strengthen ties between the Middle East and Europe.
They will visit six countries in 12 days and the adventure begins with a 12-hour ferry crossing from Sharjah, UAE, to Shiraz in Iran.
Sponsorship
But the adventure will only become a reality if the determined friends can raise Dh29,000 in sponsorship.
Lancel has already jumped on board with the opportunity to have its name plastered across the countries the girls will travel through. But more funds are needed to secure the trip for the girls, who hope to leave on either June 18 or 25.
Ok, so the interview was going well and I understood the reasons and thoughts behind the trip... and then it all got a little out of hand.
I mean I would have completely understood if they told me they are making the trip in a Land Cruiser or Pathfinder - but a Mini Cooper? Really??
Yes, really.
We are ready
So with limited space the girls are taking only the essentials.
Elise, 27, a communications manager, said: "We are ready. More than ready in fact and obviously more than excited. Perfectly focused, giving the best of ourselves to reach our first objective: the departure."
"The whole idea is to bring to Europe a true image of the Middle East: its hospitality, openness and cultural wealth. Furthermore, all along our route, we will illustrate what Dubai's vision has taught us."
Wonderful opportunity
"We are still looking for sponsors: adventurous companies, people who will trust our project and our values."
"We are confident the generosity and leading vision of UAE companies will give us the last impulse to go."
Allison, 24, a marketing executive for Schneider in Dubai, said: "This is a wonderful opportunity for us but also for companies and businesses in the Middle east to join forces with companies across Europe."
"We plan to make a splash in both the UAE and French media."
The essentials
- The obvious first was almost said in unison by the pair - MP3 player (they laughed at just how ridiculously girly this sounded).
- Laptop - to update people as to where they are.
- Toilet paper - just in case they are caught unaware!
- Camera - to capture the highs and lows of the trip.
