Improving the little things can make a big difference in your serve.

For the serve it starts with a good ball tossĀ - watch any of the great servers and each one will put the ball in the right spot every time, although this requires rhythm and practise.

To find the ideal place to put the ball, fully extend your racket upward and toss the ball just above the top of the frame.

Once you feel good about your toss, it's time to hit some balls.

Before worrying about hitting serves in, hit length-of-the-court missiles. Try to hit the ball well over the net so it lands around the baseline.

When you practise hitting real serves it's always better to make a high percentage so don't worry about pace.

Clark Francis Tennis Academy coach Doug said: "Many players try to hit serves as hard as possible in practise and most of them land out. This doesn't bother them during practise but when they get into a match their serves then don't improve.

"A good tip is to set up challenges for yourself such as hitting a certain number of serves in a particular part of the service box."
