Dubai: Abul Aziz Al Hakim, captain of the Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club and a former Secretary General of the UAE Golf Association (UAEGA), is relieved that the world No 2 Rafael Nadal has lived to fight another day.
"I plan to go for the final on Sunday and hope that the Spaniard stays on till then," said Al Hakim, who confesses himself to being only a "casual" tennis fan.
"If you still ask me about my favourite player, it's got to be [Roger] Federer. Apart from his style of play, I like his mental and physical strength - and an ability to stay calm under pressure," said Al Hakim, also a five-time national champion bowler.
While his responsibilities as a senior executive with the Emirates-NBD may not always permit him to make it to the Aviation Club, Al Hakim, nevertheless, manages to keep himself updated with the trends.
"I had even taken lessons in tennis, years back, but my first choice was always bowling," he recalled. Later, Al Hakim switched to golf and is now a regular in most of the amateur events.
