Zayed University is continuing its project "Zayed, Enduring Legacy" that was established permanently two years ago for the Dubai Shopping Festival at the Dubai Heritage Village in remembrance of the late Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
This year's programme, organised by the students under the patronage of Shaikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and President of Zayed University, bears the title "Zayed Multicultural Success — Symbol of Unity and Tolerance."
Dr Sulaiman Al Jassim, Vice President of Zayed University, said, "The memory of Shaikh Zayed will always be in our hearts. Subsequent generations will always remember his values, human interest, aid to other countries and his love for the UAE and its citizens.
The project being implemented by the students is an expression of their deep gratitude for his great efforts inside and outside the UAE.
"The student organising committee made strenuous efforts to record the great history of Shaikh Zayed in building this country. Choosing a large hall at the Dubai Heritage Village conveys the noble heritage and history of the UAE. They used modern technology to attract the many visitors to the Shopping Festival."
Gratitude
Following the success of the last two exhibitions that concentrated on the UAE's history through the life of Shaikh Zayed and attracted more than one million visitors, they chose the title "Zayed Multicultural Success — Symbol of Unity and Tolerance".
Dr Al Jassim expressed gratitude for the support of the sponsors: the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing, Jumbo Electronics, Elmo, Al Rahal Network, Abu Dhabi Cultural Council, Military Museum, Al Sayegh and Emirates Motorplex.
Maytha Al Ali, coordinator of the project, said it embodies the feelings of gratitude to Shaikh Zayed and informs visitors to the Heritage Village about the historical role of this leading personality and the special place he has in the hearts of both locals and expatriates.
Tolerance
"This year we will concentrate on his role as a symbol of coherence and tolerance. The exhibition will display a number of photos, books, sculptures, and poems about Shaikh Zayed in addition to a special film about his life, his accomplishments, and his role in promoting unity and tolerance in the UAE, the region and the world," Maytha said.
The exhibition is open from 5 to 10pm daily throughout the Shopping Festival in the Heritage Village.
The "Zayed, Enduring Legacy" project features three plasma screens which will show a film being prepared by the students; sculptures of Shaikh Zayed; touch screens which allow visitors to seek information on specific topics related to Shaikh Zayed's life and achievements; displays of personal items belonging to Shaikh Zayed; pictures illustrating the multicultural nature of UAE society; books on the life of Shaikh Zayed, and the family tree of the Al Nahyan family.
Other activities planned by the students include a film featuring interviews with prominent UAE dignitaries; poetry recitations once a week; souvenirs for visitors, and magazines to be distributed to the public which will contain information about the UAE's multicultural success story.
