Dubai: Around 60 per cent of the Dh15.5 billion Dubai Metro project has been completed, said a senior official.
"The red line of the Dubai Metro will be operational from September 9, 2009," Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said while briefing a delegation from Saudi Arabia about the RTA's projects.
The delegation led by Dr Osama Fadil Al Bar, Governor of Makkah, visited the RTA headquarters yesterday. Al Tayer said the Dubai Metro is the biggest driverless metro project worldwide as a single unit.
Al Tayer also briefed the delegation about the RTA's strategic Plan-2015 which focuses on three key aspects.
The first one is aimed at reducing traffic congestion on roads. The second part of the strategic plan is to improve traffic safety levels in Dubai. The third aspect, he said, is to encourage community members to use mass transport modes.
