Dubai: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, is making a surprise personal contribution to be included in an auction for Dubai Cares.
The Signatures auction will be held tomorrow under the patronage of Shaikha Manal Bint Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the Dubai Women Establishment at the Emirates Towers Terrace.
Shaikha Manal has also personally donated one of her own works of art, titled Anticipation. The auction comes as part of Shaikha Manal's role with Dubai Cares in championing the cause of educating girls in developing countries.
The auction, supported by Christie's, will also contain items donated by prominent UAE families to raise money for Dubai Cares. Other items include an antique gold and silver coin collection and a painting by Hakim Gazali donated by Abdul Rahman Al Owais, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development.
Funds continue to roll in for Dubai Cares following a concert held Monday night and Dubai Municipality's pledge to donate Eid revenue generated at public parks to the cause.
Another Dh10 million was donated by Al Fajer Properties, Dh2.5 million from Dubai Police and Dh1 million by Al Zahra Hospital, it was announced, bringing the total amount raised to over Dh832 million.
Noble goals
The hospital's contribution was announced at a meeting between Shaikh Ahmad Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Shaikh Majid Bin Faisal Al Qasimi, Managing Director of Al Zahra Hospital.
"The campaign has highlighted the nobility of Islam with its call to support the needy, regardless of ethnicity, religion or culture," said Shaikh Majid.
Referring to the campaign's "noble goals", Lieutenant General Dahi Khalfan Tamim, Dubai Police Chief, said the donations were a clear example of the immense support for the campaign.
Hussain Nasser Lootah, Acting Director-General of Dubai Municipality said Dubai Municipality had been keen to attract the maximum number of people to public parks during the Eid holidays with a variety of programmes organised, in order to support the campaign.
"This pioneering initiative will create a great impression among the world's strong humanitarian community," he said.
