One mad magician, two Arabian dancers, eight angry lions, seven jumping fish, a wild jungle boy, an entourage of bubbly belly dancers, 12 penguins and a pretty little girl dressed in red polka dots — meet the cast of the Magical Ice Carousel.

Graceful

The lights went down and the crowd was left in silence as 12-year-old Kristyna Vasickova, or Kiki in character, sailed effortlessly onto the ice for the opening show at Mall of the Emirates last week.

Dressed in red polka dots and pigtails, Kiki immediately won the hearts of the huge audience as she gracefully danced around on the ice.

With a cast and crew of more than 40 people, the Magical Ice Carousel is exactly that — a magical show and a carousel of colour, creativity and class on ice.

Excited

The production was written and choreographed specifically for Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS) by Intershow Productions — a specialist ice dancing company from the Czech Republic.

Radka Kovarikova-Novotna, project and casting manager, said the team was extremely excited about performing in the UAE for the first time.

She said: "This show has been written with many nationalities in mind. We have penguins, the jungle and even belly dancers to give a feeling of a journey around the world.

"People seem excited about the show and so far we have had such a wonderful and positive response.

"It is wonderful to be able to perform our show in a mall — Dubai has such amazing facilities and opportunities."

Champions

The show follows Kiki on an imaginary journey around the world after she is mesmerised by a magician who is performing on stage. She travels to the sea, the jungle, to Arabia and Iceland meeting various animal and human characters along the way.

Radka, also from the Czech Republic, has many years of experience as she and her partner, Rene Novotny, were crowned figure skating world champions in pairs in 1995. They also became professional world champions in 1995 and 1997, ranking second at the world championship in 1992, winning silver medals at the European championships in 1995, ranking fourth at the Winter Olympics in Albertville and seven-time national champions.

They have appeared in figure skating shows such Holiday on Ice, Fantasy on Ice, Stars on Ice and Champions on Ice. She was also the first to play the role of Nastenka in Father Frost, a fairy tale musical on ice, as well as the first to star in Romeo and Juliet, a love story musical on ice, where she played the role of Juliet.

Don't miss it

Magical Ice Carousel will be performed at 6.30pm, 8pm and 9.30pm until Wednesday, July 25, at the Centre Stage at Mall of the Emirates, Dubai.
