Yousuf Al Fahad and his wife Shejocin are visiting Dubai from Kuwait on a 10-day break. The couple's daughter, 6-year-old Fanar, had already soaked up the magic of Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS) Flower Surprises at Dubai Festival City.
Impressed
On holiday with other family members, Yousuf said the entertainment provided by DSS had certainly made the shopping element of the holiday much more enjoyable.
He said, "It is great for the kids and it also gives you a chance to sit down and rest while you are on these often long shopping trips.
"We have been impressed by the shows and workshops and have seen a few of them during our stay.
"We didn't come to Dubai specifically because of DSS but in the future we would definitely consider planning a break around the summer celebrations as it does provide an extra element to a holiday at no cost to us as a family."
Newfound talent
Visiting from Pakistan, sisters Sarah and Naiha Malek, 23 and 14 respectively, said they come to Dubai every year. Sarah said, "I don't think we come specifically because of the Dubai Summer Surprises - I think it's more because of the timing, because we come to Dubai during our school summer holidays.
"It is nice to get involved and we love shopping so we spend a lot of time in the malls while we are here. "Like today, for instance, we shopped until we dropped at all our favourite stores and then randomly took part in a balloon-making workshop, which was really good fun. We made giant flowers and I plan to impress my friends at school with my new found talent when I get back.
"DSS is an added extra which I think we would miss if we came to Dubai at any other time of the year." Ebrahim Al Fayez is visiting Dubai from Saudi Arabia along with his wife Hoda and daughter Lama, aged 7.
A success
While Lama tucked into a huge ice cream, Al Fayez explained why he thought DSS was such a success. He said, "It's all here for the taking. The activities, workshops and shows are readily available for all to be as involved as they wish.
"It is a welcome relief from the shopping and makes stopping for a coffee that much easier when it comes to keeping Lama happy and entertained.
"Yesterday we made a special visit to Modhesh Fun City which was wonderful - there was so much to do." Lama added, "I went horseback riding and it was lots of fun. I also saw Modhesh."
