Dubai: The DED-organised Back-2-School Surprises week was quite popular and met its objectives to put kids in the right frame of mind at the start of the academic year.

The final week of the 10-week Dubai Summer Surprises is tinged with a bittersweet feeling.

On the other hand, they know that a goodbye is essential so DSS (and Modhesh) can return next year.

The Back-2-School Surprises week organised by the Dubai Department of Economic Development (DED) was designed to ease the transition from summer vacation to the start of the new academic year.

As it concludes tomorrow, coinciding with the end of DSS, the organisers have the satisfaction of knowing their job was well done.

The Back-2-School Surprises week was filled with various activities that boosted children's skills, fostered a love of learning, and encouraged peer interaction in an entertaining and educative format. It also included several events enjoyed by the whole family.

Sultan Lootah, head of the Back-2-School Surprises Organising Committee, thanked the DSS team, sponsors, and the team from DED, for making the week a great success.

"We gave away nearly 20,000 gifts to students throughout the week, and have added five more diamond watches to the raffle whose draw will be held at the closing ceremony this evening at Modhesh Fun City as well as the Nissan Tiida car raffle," said Lootah.

Different events such as competitions, exhibits and contests were presented. Activities included 14 main events such as the One Million Finger Print, the School Fantasy, a story on each door, Success Stairs (Sulam Al Najah), the Traffic Academy, the School Creativity Fair, the Fun Academy, My School is My Priority, the Book Store, the Ancient School, the School Scouts Competition, Back-2-School Fair and the Longest Sketch Book.

Activities were held at the Mall of the Emirates, Ibn Battuta Mall, Al Reef Mall, Deira City Centre, Hamarain Center, Mercato, Ghurair City, BurJuman, Al Bustan Center, Bin Saugat, Lamcy Plaza, Children's City, Modhesh Fun City and the Dubai Department of Economic Development premises.

The 10-week long DSS, which opened with Ice Surprises week on June 21, celebrated the Arts Surprises Week, International Food Surprises, Adventure Surprises, Cartoon Surprises, Nature Surprises, Knowledge Surprises, Flower Surprises and Heritage Surprises. It concludes today with Back-2-School Surprises.
