Dubai: With 25 events for the forthcoming Art Surprises week, organisers Dubai Naturalisation and Residency Department (DNRD) will unleash unlimited fun and entertainment for both young and old.
The DNRD announced the impressive events calendar for the Arts Surprises, the second week of Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS).
Major Omar Al Shamsi, Head of the Organising Committee of the Arts Surprises Week, said, "We have lined up 25 exciting and entertaining events for the Arts Surprises week. We consciously selected the events that suit visitors of all age groups besides focusing on bringing out potential talents in all art fields and encouraging talented people to create and innovate more."
Major Al Shamsi said the Arts Surprises week as the name suggests will entail a host of events for the creatively inclined. The department unveiled an interesting array of activities and events in line with the art theme of the week running from June 29 to July 5. The week begins with an opening ceremony at the Modhesh Fun City on June 29 which will be a curtain raiser to the week-long activities.
The department attempts to explore various art forms by hosting activities related to the stage and theatre, puppet shows, painting and sculpture, magic shows and traditional folkloric shows.
The activities are well-balanced to cater to different interests and age-groups.
Two popular children's plays in Arabic The Lost Duck and The Beauty of the Circus will be staged at the Modhesh Fun City Modhesh Stage. Both the plays have actors dressed up as different animals.
Competitions
There will also be mobile puppet shows by internationally renowned performers from children's theatre for visitors at various shopping malls.
Dubai's shopping malls will turn into music studios during the week to showcase children's talents in singing, music, and dancing. Several painting competitions will also be organised and the winners will be awarded attractive prizes.
Another highlight of the week would be the showing of the winning paintings of the Emirates International Student Creativity Contest 2006.
This is the second year this event takes place and it presents the works of the winners of the first three places, a total of 55 outstanding paintings.
This event is being organised in cooperation with the Ministry of Education for the academic year 2005-06 in BurJuman.
