The excitement of the Fringe Festival hit all the right notes with shoppers at Wafi.
Dubai Fringe Festival is being held at the mall as a signature event of the Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) 2008.
The Fringe Festival, or Fringe as it is better known, is internationally recognised as a vehicle to celebrate various forms of the arts including theatre, comedy, visual arts, dance and music.
Wafi shoppers were treated to more than 20 acts from around the world including oriental dancers, an amazing demonstration of martial arts from the Shaolin monks, a Chinese circus, unusual matrix jugglers, plus high-energy break-dancing performances. There were also Japanese variety shows and thrilling unicycle riders entertaining the crowds.
This international festival of theatre, acrobatic skill, dance, music, and unique talent is free for visitors and residents and aims to secure itself on the International Fringe calendar.
Popular
The second week of the Fringe, which runs from now until Friday, February 8, features a dynamic martial arts-based theatre production called Karma.
Combining martial arts and Korean urban dance, Karma is hugely popular and has received rave reviews from theatre enthusiasts all over the world. More than 50 performers from five different countries come together for this world-class theatre production.
Victoria Smith, Wafi's group marketing director said: "I believe the Fringe Festival has been very successful at Wafi providing our customers distinctive entertainment during DSF. It is a new and unique concept that attracts both residents and tourists and complementing Wafi's link to the arts."
Festival facts
The Fringe Festival began with the Edinburgh International Festival, in Scotland, in 1947, and was viewed as a post-war initiative to re-unite Europe through culture.
Over the past six decades, the Fringe has been constantly changing to accommodate talent from different countries and is today famous for its celebration of art and people.
The Fringe is known for its global appeal and cities including Toronto, Montreal, Edinburgh, Dublin, Melbourne and Prague host the event every year.
It is hoped the huge number of visitors during DSF will ensure Dubai is recognised among the international circle of Fringe festivals.
