Visitors are urged not to buy souvenirs made of animal products.
Visitors to the Dubai Shopping Festival are being urged not to buy souvenirs that contain products such as ivory, fur, or coral, to protect endangered animals and stop illegal trading.
The International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) and Dubai Municipality have launched the Think Twice Campaign to raise public awareness and educate tourists and consumers on how buying such souvenirs can impact the survival of endangered animals.
The campaign is targeting tourists to "Think Twice" and not buy wildlife souvenirs such as ivory, Shahtoosh shawls from Tibetan antelopes, caviar, skin products from snakes and crocodiles, fur of wild cats, such as leopards and tigers, and hard coral.
Seized
According to a spokesperson for IFAW, these products are commonly seized in the UAE and Middle East by CITES Enforcement Authorities, indicating there is a high commercial trade pressure on these wild animals. It also indicates that there is a need for such an awareness campaign.
Slogans for the campaign are telling tourists don't buy wildlife souvenirs, what are you really bringing back with you? If you do not buy they will not die.
