A selection of photographs, drawings and paintings by the students of the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) depicting varied topics including the people, culture and landscape of the UAE are on display at the Heritage Village in Al Shindagha.
It is open to the public from 5 to 9pm daily until February 2.
The HCT Creation Exhibition was put together as part of the mix of programmes for the Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF 2006-07) by the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM).
Hafsa Al Mutawa, DTCM Coordinator for HCT Creation, said: "More than 300 works of the HCT Media students from different emirates including Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Dubai will be displayed during the 45-day exhibition."
"Works displayed will be changed every week. The idea behind the exhibition is to highlight the creativity of the students and their love of heritage and culture. This exhibition will encourage more students to join our movement."
Clothing traditions
The works on display have also captured the colourful best of the Dubai Shopping Festival's previous editions. Sponsored by Canon, a tastefully decorated studio has been set up to enable the students to take photographs of visitors in traditional Emirati attire for a nominal fee (Dh15 for one photograph and Dh20 for two copies). The venue has been decorated using traditional handicrafts.
"The exhibition has given us a valuable opportunity to highlight our creative works for wider audiences and get public appreciation and encouragement," said Abdullah Al Hammadi, a second year student at HCT. He is one of the 11 HCT students, both male and female, who are involved with the exhibition.
Shahad Khalid, a third year HCT student, said visitors were being asked to choose the Best Work of Art at the exhibition. Certificates of Appreciation will be awarded to the students.
Hakam Al Hashimi, Manager of the Heritage and Diving Village, said: "The exhibition is one of the new events that the department has organised for the DSF 2006-07 edition. The Heritage Village is an ideal venue to reach out to the public to enhance their knowledge about the culture and heritage of the UAE."
