Fast food giant McDonald's has raised Dh131,000 for orphans in the UAE through its fifth consecutive World Children's Day annual appeal.

Its campaign to support orphans from Beit Al Khair Society, culminated in a celebration held at the charity's Dubai premises.

Rafic Fakih, managing director of McDonald's UAE, said he was proud of what the campaign achieved financially and in terms of public awareness.

He said: "Social responsibility is always our top priority, stemming from our national duty as being part of the local community, and our efforts fall within our commitment towards the well-being of the society.

"Celebrating this occasion every year emphasises the great deal of importance we place on supporting needy children in our country."

All funds generated from the sale of the World Children's Day souvenirs have gone to support orphans from Beit Al Khair Society.

A spokesman for the society said: "We value the importance McDonald's is giving to this occasion and the positive returns for our operations. Children are our hope for the future and we have to join efforts to help them the best way we can."

McDonald's celebrates World Children's Day on November 20 by raising money across more than 30,000 restaurants in more than 119 countries worldwide.
