It was fair play to the girls as they took to the white-knuckle rides at Global Village for this year's annual shopping festival. And according to one group of Emirati girls, it's the only place to be during DSF.
Aisha Al Thani, 11, Buthainia Al Falasi, 13, Buthainia Al Falasi, 18, and Fatima Al Thani, 16, gathered excitedly at the base of the giant ferris wheel — the obvious meeting point for groups of friends.
The girls visit the fair each year during the festival but say this year is definitely the best by far.
Buthainia explained why they love it so much. She said: "It makes such a difference from the rest of the year — something new for us to do. It is out of town so you don't have traffic to contend with and we love the rides and games machines.
"It is also nice to make the most of the cooler weather and get some fresh air."
Rides at the Global Village are fast and furious and include a ferris wheel, rollercoaster and many of the obligatory stomach-turning spinning rides.
Hang out
Aisha said: "There is plenty of space for us and it is pretty easy to meet up with your friends. It's not very expensive which is good because it means you can come as often as you like. You don't have to bring much money unless you want to go shopping."
Buthainia added: "You can meet lots of people and socialise with your friends. For us, this is the best bit about DSF. We are not that interested in shopping so it's good that the festival also provides us with somewhere to hang out with our friends."
Fatima said: "I am looking forward to the big wheel the most. I'm sure we'll be able to see all across the city. I can't wait."
The girls, who live in Deira, say it only took 30 minutes to get to the Global Village and they shared a car.
Each girl on average took Dh100 for the entire evening's entertainment.
