The cast of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs delight a
theatre-full of children

The best pantomime in town - oh no it isn't, oh yes it is - opened to a sell-out crowd as part of the DSF musical festival extravaganza.

And it certainly was the best according to the 200 children who packed the Madinat Theatre for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

Obligatory cries of ‘he's behind you', booing and hissing when the evil queen took centre stage, and enthusiastic audience participation were the order of the day.

Oliver and David Little were particularly looking forward to the show after a long trip from their home in Muscat.

Mum and dad, Mark and Natalie, brought the youngsters to stay with their aunt, uncle and cousins for the Christmas period.

Mark said: "It's nice to come to the theatre at this time of year. We don't have an awful lot of professional stage shows in Oman - mainly amateur dramatics. It's always fun and we all get involved but it will be nice to see a professional company on stage."

All-singing, all-dancing
Sponsored by the Toy Store, the Madinat Theatre entrance has been decked out with various giant furry animals - which we have all become accustomed to seeing at Mall of the Emirates.

Children made themselves at home among the fur while parents grabbed drinks and popcorn before the performance began.

And it's all-singing, all-dancing from the word go. Talented dancers hit the stage in wonderful costumes to set the tone. The wicked queen isn't far behind - a scene which left some youngsters looking a little pale.

But it isn't long before the colourful dwarves (with famous voice-overs from characters such as Homer Simpson and Victor Meldrew) are back in the limelight brightening things up again.

Jake Clift, 7, took a minute away from the popcorn he was guarding with his life, to speak to tabloid!

Hilarious
There with his sister Rebecca, 10, and parents Archie and Jeanette, he said: "I'm looking forward to the show. I think it will be fun. I have never been to a pantomime before."

After the show, the children could hardly contain themselves. Lauren Baker, 9, left the theatre in fits of laughter.

She said: "It was all so funny. Cookie was my favourite character because she was so hilarious. My dad didn't participate in the bit where they make you shout back and she saw him so she made him do it on his own. It was the best thing I've seen all year."

The vain and wicked queen plots to have the young and beautiful Snow White killed in the forest after being told by her magic mirror that it is Snow White who is the fairest in the land, not her.
