Doha: UAE's medal hope Shaikh Saeed Bin Maktoum Bin Rashid Al Maktoum finished fourth on the first day of qualifying rounds of the skeet shooting at the Lusail shooting range in Doha.

Shaikh Saeed scored 73 points, same as Qatar's Naser Al Attiya and Chinese Di Jin.

Shaikh Saeed scored 24 in the first attempt out of 25, 25 out of 25 in the second and again 24 in the third attempt. Chinese Ridong Qu topped the charts on the first day by scoring 75 out of 75. Second was Kazakhstan's Vladislav Mouhamediev and Kuwaiti Saleh Al Muttairi, each of whom scored 74.

Saif Bin Futtais of the UAE finished 15th with 71 points, while Mohammad Ahmad came in 24th place with 68 points.

In swimming, UAE's Obaid Ahmad Obaid finished last in the 50m backstroke heat 4 held yesterday. Obaid clocked 29:10 secs, while the winner of the heat from Malaysia Keng Liat Lim clocked 26:16. secs.

In the equestrian individual cross country event which was marred by the death of the Korean rider, UAE finished fifth in the team event with 219.2 points. The UAE team comprised of Saif Omar Thabit, who scored 65.7 points, Rashid Al Hossani (73.10), Abdullah Al Shuaibi (80.40), Rashid Al Rumaithi (90.10), Abdul Rahman Al Habssi (95.40). Qatar topped the first day with 157 points, Japan second with 167 and India on third with 212.

Meanwhile, the UAE shooter Shamma Al Muhairi did not agree with Ebrahim Abdul Malek's suggestion to turn professional to achieve success and win medals for the UAE.

"How can I turn professional after 11 years in shooting. Shooting didn't give me anything, rather during the last 11 years it has affected my job and studies," she observed.
