Watching movies is a way of life for the three ticket sellers at this year's Dubai International Film Festival box office.

Aldrich, Gaurav and Amrit have worked the busy stand at the Cinestar, Mall of the Emirates, for more than five years between them.

Supervisor Aldrich Fernandes, 24, says he loves the job as it's an amazing insight into the world of Arab film. He watches at least one movie a day, either at the cinema or at home, and his favourite film of all time is Jaws.

He said: “I am a real film buff and watch too many movies a week to even admit! It's such a great place to be during and in the run-up to the event. We get to meet the most interesting people and get an insight into why they choose to watch certain films.

Gaurav Verma is 21 and has lived in Dubai for five years. Originally from India, his favourite film is The Godfather starring Marlon Brando.

He said: “When you are obsessed with film this is the perfect job for you. I watch around 16 hours of movies a week and cannot sleep until I've seen a movie at night.

“Working here is great. We are right in the heart of it and get a chance to learn as much as we can about the films showcasing here. This is only my first year in the box office but I will definitely apply again next year.

“Last year I worked the red carpet which was great. I stood right next to Morgan Freeman and Sarah Jessica Parker — it was wonderful.”

Amrit Jeswani, 22, has worked the box office for two years. His favourite film is Blow.
“This is the place to be during the festival. We meet some wonderful and wacky people.”

The DIFF box office is located adjacent to the Cinestar box office at Mall of the Emirates and is open seven days a week from 10am.
