Dubai: Hundreds of people turned out in force to see Hollywood icon Richard Gere walk the red carpet at Dubai International Film Festival at Madinat Theatre last night.
The star took more than 15 minutes to walk the route through the main courtyard of the Madinat Souk to the theatre, stopping along the way to shake hands, sign autographs and speak to the media.
Youngsters were hoisted onto parents' shoulders and others stood on chairs and tables to catch a glimpse of the famous star.
The crowd cheered as he arrived and camera flashes filled the courtyard as he made his way to the theatre.
Gere was taking part in a scheduled panel discussion called 'Operation Cultural Bridge A World of Discovery', along with director Oliver Stone, filmmaker Julia Bacha, Egyptian cinema personality Mohammad Khan, Majida Abdi, an African producer, and Ronnie Screwvala, CEO of United Television.
A capacity crowd filled the auditorium as people endured a long and an impatient wait in the standby queue to watch the superstar.
