Dubai: Lee Westwood is among the leading challengers, just three shots off the lead, after shooting a third-round 68.

While winning his first Dubai Desert Classic will be his prime focus today, the Englishman has other things on his mind.

Speaking to Gulf News, Westwood admitted playing in his sixth Ryder Cup was high on his agenda, though not his No 1 priority.

"The more important thing at this moment is that I am the Order of Merit leader and I want to keep that going," he said.

Westwood is one of the few golfers who has won tournaments on every continent, including wins of the European and the PGA Tour.

Consistency has been the key for Westwood who has recorded top-10 finishes in 11 of his last tournaments.

He is currently at the top of the Order of Merit following strong finishes in his last three events.

Good consistency

He started off with a second place in Shanghai and matched that with a joint second in Abu Dhabi followed by fifth place in last week's Qatar Masters.

"I am happy with the way I am playing," Westwood said. "My whole all-round game is solid," said the 34-year-old.

"I have shown good consistency. But I just haven't putted well enough over four rounds."
