The development of various residential and commercial clusters within the city has made it necessary that all areas are connected by a well-developed road system. And, this well-networked system enables Dubai to expand and help people travel with ease.
By the end of 2006, the total asphalt roads covered around 3,209 kilometres. More than 1,000 additional kilometres of roads are also planned, which is expected to be completed by 2020.
Such an extensive road system would prove to be critical for the workings of the city, given the rise in the population and rapid development.
In addition, the various real estate projects that have been planned call for additional roads.
Currently, there are over 20 major roads that are under construction or have just been completed.
