Fujairah: The emirate may soon introduce a rent cap. Despite an increase in residential properties, Fujairah has continued to experience relatively sharp increases in rents, which for many have out-paced any increase in personal income.

Mohammad Saif Al Afkham, Deputy Director of Fujairah Municipality, confirmed the measures could be introduced soon. He said: "The final text of the legislation is now under study and is expected to get the final approval before it is officially adopted.

"A committee was set up to deal with the unreasonable increase in rents. We tried to take into consideration interest of all parties."

Faisal Othman Al Baroudi, an Emirati telecom technician, had to move out of his flat after his rent was increased from Dh18,000 to Dh23,000.

Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Ajman Ras Al Khaimah already have rent caps.
