Riyadh: US President George W. Bush on Wednesday concluded a three-day visit to Saudi Arabia during which he held two sessions of talks with King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz.

The talks have achieved a number of American as well as Saudi, Arab and Islamic goals. "The Saudi-American summit has created new and strong impetus to the strategic partnership between the two countries," an American source told Gulf News.

"The President has personally exerted big efforts to guarantee that the Congress will pass an advanced weaponry package to Saudi Arabia."

The American source added that the two leaders agreed on several issues related to Iraq, fighting terrorism, supporting peace talks and the importance of establishing an independent and viable Palestinian state.

Reporters accompanying President Bush said the Saudi monarch has succeeded in softening the US stance towards Iran.

"US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice ... said Iran is not a permanent enemy to the United States and that it can improve its relations with Washington [if] it abandons its military nuclear ambitions and Washington is not opposing that Iran use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes," Michael Abramowitz of the Washington Post told Gulf News.
