Abu Dhabi: The Ministry of Interior has urged the authorities to effectively mobilise and avert the chances of bird flu leaking into the country.
The call was made at a meeting held at the Ministry headquarters yesterday and chaired by Major General Khamis Saif Bin Suwaif, Director of Criminal Security. Bin Suwaif asked the officials to make sure that every entry point into the country effectively blocks the import of any birds, live or frozen.
The committee who prepared a report on the assessment of the situation stressed the need to unify procedures.
Suggested procedures include an instant ban on the import of birds and bird products that are not in line with safety standards, setting up awareness and educational plans for all workers at entry points, and studying the experiences of advanced countries to protect the country from biological risks.
