Khartoum: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, yesterday called on Arab leaders to come up with decisions aimed at bringing about economic prosperity, political and social stability to the Arabs.

Shaikh Mohammad's call came in a statement upon his arrival in the Sudanese capital, leading a high-level UAE delegation for the Arab Summit which opens today.

He said the UAE, under the leadership of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, looks forward to a fruitful summit outcome that will serve Arab causes and help maintain peace and stability in the region and the world.

Referring to developments in the Palestinian territories and Iraq, Shaikh Mohammad said: "The Arab region is now facing difficult challenges that require joint efforts to confront them.

"Such challenges require a high level of coordination with the United Nations and concerned countries to find peaceful solutions and to contribute in lasting peace and stability yearned by the Arab people so that they can focus on development and communication with other cultures within the principles of peaceful co-existence," he said.

"We are confident that the Khartoum Summit will come up with practical and realistic resolutions and recommendations that will bring good tidings for the Arab nation and its future generations," Shaikh Mohammad said.

He hoped the summit will be fruitful at the economic level by approving implementation of the pan-Arab free trade zone which will help achieve economic and commercial integration and setting up of joint ventures that will provide job opportunities. It will lead to economic growth by cutting unemployment and by focusing on scientific and technological development," Shaikh Mohammad said.

He added that the Arab masses are eager to see the Summit's resolutions coming to fruition and impacting development plans.
