Dubai: Ministry of Labour offices across the country will remain open on Saturday, September 1, to give an opportunity for amnesty seekers to process their paperwork before the amnesty period finishes on September 3, announced the Minister of Labour.

Dr Ali Bin Abdullah Al Ka'abi, Minister of Labour, gave his directives to the labour offices across the country to open its doors to amnesty seekers on Saturday from 7.30am to 6pm giving them an additional day to process their paperwork.

The cabinet, in a move to regulate the labour market, had granted a three-month grace period, on June 3, to illegal expatriate workers and their employers to either adjust their status or leave the country without penalty.

Some 350,000 illegal workers have gone into hiding in many marginal jobs across the country, according to ministry of labour reports. "We would like to encourage both workers and employers to make use of the last days of the amnesty," said Al Ka'abi.
