Jordan: The family of slain militant leader Abu Musab Al Zarqawi is asking the government to bring his body home for burial, a parliamentarian said on Saturday. The Jordanian government has so far refused to allow the Al Qaida leader to be buried in Jordan. Jordan holds Zarqawi and his Al Qaida in Iraq as responsible for a triple suicide bombing in Amman that killed at least 60 people in November. "One of Al Zarqawi's brothers asked us to speak with the government to bring his body home for internment," legislator Ali Abu-Sukkar said. "What the family is asking for is legitimate." A top security official had said that Jordan would not allow "under any circumstances" Iraq's most notorious terrorist to be buried in Jordan and "stain Jordanian soil". Zarqawi was killed in A US military air strike on Wednesday.
Abu Sukkar said that legislators "would issue a petition in the coming days" requesting that Al Zarqawi be returned to Jordan for burial and "have interested parties sign it." The petition would require at least 55 signatures to gain a majority vote in Jordan's parliament and in order for it to be presented to the prime minister.
