Russians warn America on Iran
Soviet President Leonid Brezhnev issued a tough warning to the United States not to contemplate military intervention in strife-torn Iran. "Any interference, especially military interference in the affairs of Iran would be regarded by the USSR as a matter affecting its security interests" Brezhnev said.

Brezhnev referred to press reports that western powers, including the US, might intervene militarily in Iran. If they deny attempts to interfere in Iran's internal affairs-as was done recently by the US President-they right away make reservations which do not exclude the possibility of such interference under an appropriate excuse" the Soviet Head of State said.

Blumenthal visits UAE
United States Treasury Secretary Michael Blumenthal arrives in a bid to head off moves to switch the pricing of oil away from the dollar and to keep an oil price increase to the minimum.

Blumenthal will urge the financial advisers of UAE that Carter's measures to bolster the dollar are sound and will lead to its stability in world markets. OPEC countries, of which the UAE is one, price their oil in the dollar and in recent months they have complained that they have sustained heavy losses as a result of the dollar decline.

Litter brigade
Nearly five tons of rubbish was left over from raft race at Mina Seyahi. Over 100 children and parents from the Jumeirah English Speaking School took part in a clean-up of the remaining litter, most of which had been deposited near the bins, and collected more than two and a half tons of the amount left on the Dubai beach.

Mrs Gandhi faces eggs barrage
Political enemies of Indira Gandhi hurled a barrage of eggs and bottles as she arrived to speak at a public meeting in a British cinema.

The missiles fell well short of the former Indian Prime Minister's gold Mercedes as its police escort swept it into a compound at the Birmingham cinema, behind a specially erected eight-foot wire fence.
