Three die as Sikhs battle with police
Three people died and at least 100 were injured as Sikh extremists with swords, staves, rocks and torches fought police through the streets of New Delhi.
Authorities imposed a 16-hour curfew on parts of the Indian capital after quelling the daylong disturbances with rifle fire and hundreds of teargas shells.
The disturbances stemmed from a feud between turban-wearing Sikhs and the Nirankaris, a breakway group branded by Sikhs as renegades and blasphemous Shikhs, especially extremist members of a group known as the Akalis.
